AND THEN HE SAID: IT HURTS LIKE SUGAR, SUGAR

daniel pilaprat Can he come back from his stupid motorcycle trip in California now so we can make out and drink whiskey in bed. Like a silly old 90’s film I fucking ache from being apart. The fact that I know how soon I’ll have to live apart from him for god knows how long makes me hurt even more. Linn

NUMBNING NIGHTIME HEAT

I remembered that I never showed you my trip to the coast of Kenya. So I’ll give you some glimpses of it this month. 22 matatu24 saga23 saga26 tuktuk25 moa27 saga29 saga18 saga The nights are humid and heavy down by the coast. I always forget and this time I even brought two sweaters and a pair of jeans. They stayed completely untouched and sweaty in my suitcase. Once again I also forgot to put sunscreen on my feet and stinging with redness I had to walk barefoot after that as any shoes would slice my skin open. Luckily we only spent time in the sand or got picked up by the tuktuks or the motorcycle boys who drove us around for a few pennies. If we’d fall we’d die in our bare feet and miniskirts. Not even a helmet on or a single doubt. There our house was only walls filled with windows without the glass. At night the wind crept like lava over us. No breeze, only heat. Waking up felt like having held your breath that whole time and we’d immediately run down and throw ourselves in the salty waves. But it’s easy to forget those nights when you spend too many others lying under a duvet in London, cold as ice lollies in a flat where you can’t afford heating. But the shock of remembrance once you return to the heat is so pleasantly welcome.   Linn

RUBY TUESDAY

Ruby Tuesday For the past days this little furry creature has been living with me. The reason being the mice who are spending their summer holiday in our kitchen. Ruby Tuesday is his name, like the Stones song. But instead of catching mice he’s sleeping in my bed or waking me up by chewing on my toes in the middle of the night. That’s another beauty of the cheap and broken living in London, that you get to borrow cats. And there goes that cat/kitten hating personality, I’m officially turned into a (kind of ish) cat lover. It’s a miracle. Ps still won’t be able to like kittens though.   Linn

LET’S MIGRATE TO HACKNEY WICK

1 mikey kajsa pub on the park The day after Field Day I wake up at ten and people are still partying in my livingroom. I snooze and by midday the flat is deserted so I get up to make a big brunch whilst the boys sleep. It is 3 or 4pm when we head out in the sizzling sunlight. Kajsa and Mikey are at London Fields, having brunch and recommend us to grab a beer because it’s the only thing that will cure this state we are all in. And so we do. 3 kajsa mikey Feeling more like ourselves we walk around Hackney for a bit. 2 mikey Stopping at some roadside flea markets buying old reggae vinyls and drooling over native american rugs. 4 hackney wick On the overground and over to Hackney Wick. 5 hackney wick The only area in east which is still cheap and dodgy as hell, filled with artists, students, empty warehouses and criminals. I think that we should all move there and Kajsa suggests us opening a cinema there together. YES. 8 kajsa mikey I wish summer would be constant and that there was no winter or thaw or heating bills or closed windows. 8 crate brewery It’s Crate Brewery we’ve come for. Just by the dreamy canal, playing gorgeous music. 6 crate brewery pizzas There they literally make the most amazing pizzas in Europe, probably the whole world. Hangover cured! 7 kajsa mikey axel We drink Crate’s own ales and laugh in hangover pains turned drunkenness. All take turns fighting about telling stories from before, jokes somebody once told or events we’ve forgotten. It’s just one of those dreamy summer days, and god we know it. 6 kajsa mikey Dreamiest movie star couple ever. <3 9 hackney wick As the sun is starting to climb lower towards the horizon it’s time for us to get back home. The whole of London seems full of rooftop parties in the summer. There are 3(!) in this photo alone, can you spot them? 10 regents canal From the Lebanese restaurant on Broadway Market we buy ice coffees to drink by the canal. On the house boats people have barbecues, drinking bottled beers. When the sun has disappeared we all head home and crash face down in our beds just as a massive thunderstorm sweeps over and soak all the hot roads. It’s almost as the raindrops fry on the baking asphalt.   Linn
