Hyper Island

my hyper island graduation

On the 10th of June I graduated from the Digital Media Creative programme at Hyper Island in Stockholm, together with my 42 incredible class mates. Let’s just say that it was just as emotional and magical as this education has been. Let’s have a look.

Dano-and-Theo

The morning started at Anton’s flat! The whole class had brought something delicious for a massive potluck champagne breakfast. There was stinky but heavenly truffle scrambled eggs, cinnamon buns, cheese, pimms and so much more, but foremost a whole bunch of cute people. So I naturally forgot to take pictures.

I had a proper mum moment looking around the room, overwhelmed with joy over having so many people Never have I been somebody who’s gone to a tight knit class who just love each other and do everything together, but seriously, this one has been insane. <3 Ok, already we know that this day will end in tears.

At midday it was time for us all to march over to Hyper Island for our final graduation! When we got there our programme manager Sam had prepped for us.

Så emotionellt och spännande och nervöst.

It was very moving and emotional and exciting.

     Digital-Media-Creative-Graduation,-2016

Then it was time for us to reflect back on our two years at Hyper Island. We all received a letter we had written to ourselves on the first week, something I had completely forgotten, and then share what that letter made us feel or think. People were in tears or laughing hysterically.

Myself, I was taken by surprise by my own. I expected to be massively disappointed by myself but it was in fact the complete opposite. All the things agonising me for the past years and especially lately were in there, but also the answers. I am not sure about whether to share it with you, but I might.

Digital-Media-Creative-Grdauation-2016

The next moment was the most amazing thing ever. The day before everybody got to draw a name from a box. Your task was then to prepare a 5min graduation speech about and for this person, talking about their personality, a memory from these years or whatever, but without disclosing who it was so that people had to then guess. I couldn’t breathe from laughing so hard, and in the next second all 42 of us were balling our eyes out from another touching speech. <3 Just wow.

Och så var vi officiellt utexaminerade!

Then we were officially graduated!

Behind schedule we rushed off to the tube to go to the venue our school had hired – Färgfabriken, a gallery, club and restaurant space located in an old factory.

It was rainy and grim but we didn’t notice.

Ok, climbing up the stairs in this building I was in awe. It was like stepping into heaven with the largest, brightest room I’ve ever set my foot in with large windows covering the walls and ceilings.

And some instagramming and snapchatting.

My date to this ball was dapper as fuck (excuse my language, but I mean seriously). Theo never disappoints. Also lovely that it was Theo’s name I drew, so I held his graduation speech. Sobbed through the whole thing, obvi, haha.

The food was delish and speeches were held, insane internship stories told and love collectively declared.

Sanna,-at-Färgfabriken-Digital-Media-Creative-Graduation,-2016

Sanna looked like a dream, of course.

But first we chilled in the back yard for a bit, doing nothing in particular but hang out.

Anton djed the dirtiest of rnb and hiphop from our years together and we danced and screamed and whatnot. I also sobbed like a lil baby, for saying bye, for my flight to London and Field Day being cancelled, for the uncertainty of what lies ahead and for knowing that I will not be part of Hyper Island anymore.

Party-at-Färgfabriken-Digital-Media-Creative-Graduation,-2016

Som Erik i min klass sa,”They lure you in with saying that you’ll become a graphic designer or coder or project manager, and sure you do learn that. But you realise that the most important thing you learn is how to transform and handle anything whether it is a business of life, and all the people in it. Especially yourself.”

But I will. You know how people go to India to find themselves and you think it’s bullshit. Well, this was my India, and I am not a single bit saner. But I can handle it, and it’s changed my way of being – towards myself and others.

Like Erik said, ”They lure you in with saying that you’ll become a graphic designer or coder or project manager, and sure you do learn that. But you realise that the most important thing you learn is how to transform and handle anything whether it is a business of life, and all the people in it. Especially yourself.”

Hyper Island and DMC16 this it to you, cus you bloody rock.

Yay me.

Yesterday I spent my last day as a student at Hyper Island. Two of the most overwhelming, developing, excruciating and fun years of my life so far as come to an end. I have graduated! Yay me. Of course I didn’t let you down, but sobbed like a lil baby for a lot of it. I feel grateful for being so fortunate to have experienced this life changing school, with these colourful and considerate people.

It went out with a bang. Because how could it not with 42 such vibrant souls? But more about that when I’ve recovered a bit more.

HOW I CREATED MY PORTFOLIO

As I’ve mentioned it’s less than 3 weeks(!) before I move to London. The plan is for me to have an internship in midst November (although I’m considering postponing it to January and write during autumn instead?) and for an internship one needs a portfolio!

After hours of work I’ve finished www.linnwiberg.com so let’s have a look.

Screen Shot 2015-09-29 at 22.33.00A portfolio is your own website showcasing who you are, projects you’ve worked on and basically why somebody should hire you. I have four sections in mine.

Screen Shot 2015-09-29 at 22.35.28

Who is Linn? This is the first section and here I present myself in my most cool and competent way. I’m applying for social media strategy or content creation roles so here you can also see my cv and skills.

Screen Shot 2015-09-29 at 22.57.25

Work Work Work. This is all new to you! Four of my favourite projects from my year at Hyper Island. There’s an app I created to help women walk home safe at night, a tech exhibition, a PR stunt and a website I’ve coded. Screen Shot 2015-09-29 at 22.36.46

If you click on the projects you can read more about it and see mockups or presentation videos etc. This is my project SHELTR for example.

Screen Shot 2015-09-29 at 22.45.32

Blog. This is basically a media kit for companies who want to buy blog services from me, like sponsored posts or city guides etc. Here you can see how many readers I have (so in and see how powerful we all have become together!), what I want to communicate with my blog, previous collaborations I’ve done and what different blog posts can look like.

Screen Shot 2015-09-29 at 22.45.45

I also have compiled the interviews different magazines have done with me.

Screen Shot 2015-09-29 at 22.47.13

Screen Shot 2015-09-29 at 22.48.32

Writing & PhotographyThis is the final section compiling freelance work I’ve done which includes writing and photography which are my passion babies. You probably recognise most of them.

I coded mine in WordPress using Visual Composer and bought my domain name and webb hosting at City NetworkIf you’re not code savvy I can recommend Square Space or Cargo Collective.

That’s linnwiberg.com for you, so click and spread.

Now I’m spending my evenings trying to write up cover letters to my dream jobs. It’s so difficult! So if you guys have any feedback on things you didn’t understand, or liked extra much or ANYTHING, please comment. And of course hire me.

Prosecco in Miso Cups & My Last Day At Hyper Island

Hyper-Island,-TelefonplanOk something insanely shocking happened on Friday. I went to school just like all the other days, had long and intense lectures that once again had me question my world view, drank three too many cups of coffee (seriously Sweden is turning me into the worst caffeine addict) and then the day was over. Undramatic right? But as we finish the lecture our program manager announces that it was in fact our last day ever at school. Not as in my graduating but rather my not spending another day in the physical school ever again! And I had no idea! THAT, my friends, is emotional.Tobias,-Jackie-and-Majsan,-Stockholm-2015So we gathered all of the lovely people in my class and went to the disgusting little bar around the corner.

It’s odd how fast time pass nowadays. I read a theory on why that is, time passing faster with age. It explained how when you are little, like 5 for example, one year is so long in relation to the time you had lived. In fact it makes up 20% of your life. Whilst for somebody who’s 50, one year only makes up 2%. I guess it’s true, even though it makes me uncomfortable knowing that my time becomes less valuable the older I get. And now my time at school is over, just like that.Jackie-and-Majsan,-Stockholm-2015But it also feels really fucking great to almost be done, so we decided to continue celebrating.Majsan,-Tanto-2015 The entirety of the school went down to Tantolunden to sit in the grass, drink prosecco out of miso cups and play games. Amalia,-Stockholm-2015 Mimmi-Linn-Jackie,-Stockholm-2015I’m going to miss all these little freaks so much it pains me. Mimmi-Linn-Jackie-in-Tanto<34567  Aron,-Stockholm-2015Amalia-i-TantoWhen the sun was gone we entered bars, ran into potential lovers and somebody got a GRL PWR stick and poke tattoo right by the dance floor. The suburbs lay thick with fog and so did our minds. Somehow we ended up with lots of hotdogs at an after party at Katja’s where boys danced alone and we spilt drinks and broke furniture and went in and out of laughter and sleep.

I think I got home at six, walking home listening to crime podcasts as the sun rose but since time is more and more irrelevant, I feel like that’s alright.

WEDNESDAY 8TH OF OCTOBER 2014

Linnwibme by Lovisa Ranta, London, July 2014   I’m buried in work and it is so much fun I might turn into a workaholic who sits at home learning software rather than dance drunk in a basement. Not really, that will never happen, but I’ll be well busy this week. – The reason being that I’m working on an interactive installation for a massive Hyper Island exhibition! It’s called Fluorescent Space Vibrations and will be at Grev Turegatan on the 14th of October. I’m programming, vjing and building a singing Avatar Forest (check this video for sneak peak) and it’ll be so freaky. Here’s the event, so please come say hi and see the awesome stuff we create. – Meanwhile you can read about when I had a chat with Urban Cone about their new single Sadness Disease. Also I might go and get drunk at their release party tonight, and you should too.   Linn
