BRIGHTON DAY 2

1 farm Sunday morning and I awake to Kajsa knocking on the door, still wearing last night’s outfit. I haven’t slept at all, she says in desperation. It is so disgusting here I just kept on thinking about all the volatile germs touching me. It is eleven so I get up and hug her and we get dressed and wake the boys to head out for some brunch.2 saboune Brighton is sunny and everybody is queueing for brunch but we manage to find some seats at Farm. The coffees come steaming hot but not even them are enough to ease our redbull vodka hang overs. Slowly though, we seem to all gain some energy. 3 olivia Olivia texts us that she’s just arrived with the train from London to join us for the day. 5 brighton So of course we head straight for the beach. It is grey but humid but we do enjoy the clouds as we lay down on the rocks, listening to Connan Mockasin and other beachy music mixing with the icy waves. Unfortunately Kajsa is beyond rescue and having stayed up for 30hrs she abandons us to crash on the train back home to London. The rest of us feed each other cheap sweets on the towels and drink juice straight out of the carton before we sink into the fresh ocean. I stay extra long under the surface, not moving, trying to disappear my thought. 4 saboune Later, in our exhausted breaths I am overwhelmed with sorrow as there are only 7 days until I have to move away from London. But in that exact moment a seagulls shits right on Sebastian’s head and I am flooding over with relief as I desperately laugh harder than I have in ages. And there is no stop, even in this shitty sad time, or perhaps especially now, funny shit like this save me. 7 brighton8 brighton Around 3pm we decide the beach has had enough of us and we head into town. 9 liv People keep on dropping off due to lack of sleep and an overdose of alcohol, but Olivia sure keeps us up and for that I am grateful. 6 ice cream With Sebastian and Daniel we stroll down tiny streets and pretend to look for gems in stores until we finally find some ice cream. 10 daniel fishy fishy I get overtired and a giggle bubble up with every sentence and every emotion. Dinner is approaching and the ocean winds seem to have absorbed every ounce of energy left in our worn bodies. On some sunny pavement we crash and scavenge all of our apps to find somewhere to get fed. But we HAVE to eat seafood as we are by the seaside! Olivia proclaims and we all agree. Unfortunately being a group of celiacs and poor people wanting seafood we are facing a bit of a challenge. Finally though a little tiny restaurant just around the corner from our sunny alley pops up on Seb’s screen. They serve seafood and isn’t pricy and have tables available! It seems too good to be true, and it kind of is as Seb tells us it’s called Fishy Fishy. Oh dear sweet lord. Who would ever call their restaurant Fishy Fishy? Although it is underneath all my standards eating at a place with a name like that (not really, I eat a freaking corner shop as long as it’s cheap) we decide to go, and it is heaven. In a nautical setting we eat mussels, drink white wine and die a little. As the sun sets and my card gets declined when I try to pay for dinner, I feel absolutely drained. My man saves me and we take the train back to my London. But oh my, I will always have a soft spot for Brighton.   Linn

BRIGHTON DAY 1

1 brighton beach I have the most awesome friends in the world probably. My 2nd last weekend in the UK they planned a trip to Brighton and early a high summer day we took the slowest train down to the coast. Unfortunately I had a fever but I couldn’t possibly say no to the sea breeze! 3 Saboune Saboune was there and they had occupied some sun beds for us, proper Mallorca style. 4 kajsa brighton And my sweet sugar Kajsa. 2 Daniel Brighton We played music and dove into the cool sea and with every wave/beer my fever kind of washed away. 6 kajsa Wilma called in panic over not finding us at this crowded beach. 6 wilma brighton And we did manage to find her! She’s a wicked make up artist and had been at a shoot all morning making people pretty. Check her out here. 8 wilma brighton beach5 beach wilma kajsa Back at the beach the party started. We swam some more, watched old ladies help lost kids find their parents and drank wine straight out of the bottle. 7 wilma brighton <3 8 wilma kajsa Around 5pm it was time to ditch the suntrip holiday feel and head to the flat we had rented for the night. We were pretty excited as we hadn’t seen the place before. 9 brighton But it turned out to be an absolute shithole/crack den kind of place! Ewww, so gross with sticky surfaces, stained carpets and spiders everywhere. It had probably not been cleaned this past decade and Kajsa completely freaked out (alongside the rest of us) going around saying ”Don’t touch anything! Whatever you do, DON’T TOUCH ANYTHING!”. 15 brighton Ignoring the fact that we’d have to spent the night there we hurried out on the small side streets again for some vintage hunting. 11 We tried on sparkly jumpsuits, heart shaped shades and hot pink prom dresses. 13 Linn I bought a deep blue denim shirt for money I didn’t have, but argued that I’d rather be broke when I live in Stockholm than when I’m lolidaying in Brighton. (I’m so paying for that now…) 12 wilma saboune My crew agreed. 10 daniel saboune I have so many good men in my life. <3 14 daniel19 la choza brighton The time was quickly disappearing but luckily the heat was not. Slightly tipsy and absolutely dehydrated we decided that our party night should begin. First Mexican food at La Choza! 17 saboune kajsa <3 20 mexican To the sound of gameboy techno we ordered South American beers and nachos to start. 17 tacos And divine, greasy quesadillas to follow. 21 the great eastern When we finished the sun was far from setting and the air all balmy and sticky. We swung by the American whiskey bar I love but they were having some all dude gig outside and without the cozy wintertime atmosphere with lit candles it just felt like any other dirty bar. 24 kajsa daniel24 daniel beach Instead we bought whiskey and ice and went back down to the beach. 25 daniel I die, my man is so handsome. 33 brighton pier Alongside hundreds of others who had fled London we occupied the rocky beach. 26 kajsa wilma27 wilma People played music from their smartphones, went for rides at the funfair and emptied can after can of beer. 29 kajsa30 saboune linn And that’s really all you need on a pastel summer night. 18 saboune Whiskey and stories is a great combo. 31 saboune <3 23 brighton sunset Suddenly Brighton went from cool turquoise to burning scarlet and then it all went pitch black. 34 kajsa wilma But it was still hot and nobody cared to go to a bar so we stayed on the beach until 1pm. 35 kajsa34 brighton pier Then up on the pier for some late night doughnuts before heading to my favourite spot in Brighton. 35 green door store Which of course is the Green Door Store. In the old factory under the train station they have gigs and usually awesome nights on, but they are always nisched. 36 green door store Unfortunately it was a 50s doo wop night on. We had some drinks and danced a bit but there is only that much room for jive and swing in my life so we left. First some photoboothing at the Mesmerist. 37 Then we went to the Haunt where they had a 80s night on and together with losers wearing ”I <3 Swedish Girls”-tshirts we danced and screamed and sung and drank to the sound of Prince, Cher, Toto, Kate Bush and all the other royalties from the past. At 5am the place closed with Purple Rain, and I feel like I would like to die to that song because it’s such a perfect finish. We walked home looking for late night food, the sun climbing up the horizon. Seb and Wilma went to see the sunrise from the beach whilst me, Daniel and Kajsa went to crash in the flat. And being that tired and euphoric I didn’t even care it was the most gross place I’ve slept in.   Linn

BEACHY BRIGHTON

Linn English: I have been vacant here for too long and I’m gonna tell you all about what I’ve been up to but first this is from when I went with three wicked friends to Brighton. We swam in the sea and got fried up in the sun, two things a true Londoner will always lack and hunger for. The rest of the day we rummaged through second hand stores, drank coffee, smoked and ate. Just a perfect summer Sunday.
