TORONTO – barbers + sky scrapers

The monday after this snowy night my head is heavy but the apartment is bright. I get dressed whilst the boys lay in the sofa discussing social media posts and clothing from brands they like. They take forever but that’s alright. the-Federal,-Toronto After everybody’s showered the three of us walk the icy streets through block after block of Canadian wooden houses with front porches and unlit Christmas lights, stopping at some corner to grab coffees. It is the same one we bought cappuccinos in last summer, that time wearing shorts and pearls of perspiration on our backs. 40 degrees difference. Male-Polish ~Male polish~ Daniel-outside-the-Federal <3 the-Federal-Toronto We get to the Federal on Dundas West, a brunch spot and bar (the ultimate combo if you ask me) where boys tend to take their conquests the morning after. Or so I’ve heard… Brunch-at-the-Federal,-Toronto Holy shit, this place is absolutely brilliant! They play some sick mix from Todd Terje and all around people are sipping on their bloody marys and whiskey sours. I tell Nicolas and Daniel that I definitely get it. I would totally swoon if a man brought me here after a shag. The waitress laughs when we all order the same thing, english muffin with scrambles, bacon, aioli and pickles with potato rösti. And a cocktail each of course. Daniel’s drink arrives in a tall kids glass and tastes like bubblegum and they agree on that that isn’t really the drink to order to impress a girl. Or maybe it is? All I know is that my bloody mary comes with doritos, so my life is complete. Daniel,-the-Federal It might even be the best bloody brunch I’ve had. There should be aioli on all foods always. Steven Full and a tiny bit tipsy we check out some stores where I catch them boys touching female undies before we to to pick up some beers for this guy! Docs-and-hairSteven-cutting-Nicolas-hair Steven is a barber, or more likely a hair magician, and he cannot let these twins get out of town without putting his trademark on them. Barber-ToolsDaniel-by-Steven So we drink beers, talk and play electronic music in his kitchen whilst he does his thing. The topic is hideous christmas presents received from relatives. Like a camel coloured pleather jacket with embellished buckles and sequin details. Mmm-hm! Nicolas,-Toronto Then the hair and the beers are all gone and it is time for us to rush to the next stop. Toronto Travelling uptown where the wind is evil we cross busy highways to this warm Korean spot. Alexis,-Toronto-2014 Their movie making friend Mark is there alongside Alexis and we order spicy soups and kimchi fries from a waiter who refuses to serve us. Tons of film recommendations are being dropped and I’m elongating my iphone notes once again with films I’ll probably never watch as my attention span is internet damaged. When dinner is done we’re back out on the street, once again heading to meet with more friends. toronto-skyline Alexis drives the four of us through the dark city, Taylor Swift blasting through the speakers and all screaming along because nobody is watching us apart from ourselves and we have no shame. I turn to Daniel in the back seat and whispers that this is what it should feel like, mondays. We get to Ivan’s flat and this is the freaking view. As if you couldn’t get higher on life. Toronto,-2014Toronto-2014 The flat fills up with friends of theirs, like my dear dear Christina. I grab her instantly and we eat maple syrup doritos whilst updating each other on breakups, blogs, child stars and everything else that is important. In the background boys are arm wrestling with broken heart over girls who don’t want them. The night progresses and bottles of tequila are passed around while people dance on chairs. By midnight the place is crammed and the whole thing goes overboard. Tears are shed over shitty exes and loud hip hop overpowering the sound of puking, guys signing wills to give their fortunes to their friends and whole lip syncing performances in the sofa, somebody declaring their love in between hiccups and another falling asleep with their head in a rubbish bin. Everything is just too comical by the end of it and the four of us who arrived together can’t stop laughing. We are certainly not old just yet, luckily.   Linn
