A HOLIDAY AT HOME

1 bistrotheque We went to the club Oslo in Hackney Central one Friday. Drunk, me and Jimmy thought of the brilliant idea to repeat our brunch at Bistroteque the following day and at 3am we booked a table for 10am. Like true fighters we gathered 7 of our friends and met up for brunch at the fancy restaurant hidden up a deserted and industrial alleyway. We get there just to realise the booking was two weeks from now. Still managed to get a table though and lots of coffee. 2 canal A couple of hours later and we said bye to Marlowe who left for work while for us it was time for a day trip. 4 platform cafe Up to the Platform Café in Netil House for midday beers. It’s alright sometimes, at least that’s what the bartender said. 3 Jimmy. 5 Daniel. Because what’s the point with life if you don’t feel like you’re on holiday in your own city sometimes. And boy if it was sunny. rain And with a quick turn in the winds a thunderstorm swept over us and drenched the whole world. 6 But inside was pretty dreamy too and with the rain came even more friends. netil house Jonathon, Marlowe’s dreamy bf who moved here in January and spend all his days writing bookds and Olivia who just moved here from Toronto. 7 Olivias bf Jared and Alex. 8 daniel10 daniel Because of the rain we were trapped inside and what else is there to do but drink fancy cocktails right? I don’t think I’ve ever spent this much money before 3pm ever, but with eight friends and a million stories I was happy to. Jonathon told us about him growing up in Kentucky and working with the most American jobs in the world, like making donuts and selling weapons. <3 Jess came from Iceland and told us about the magic there and Veronique about her 4 day trip to Brazil. 11 At 4pm the rain finally stopped and it was time for a change in venue. 12 the royal oak Down to the Royal oak for pints and deep fried pickles. <3 14 sebright arms As the hours vanished people did too and all of a sudden it was eight and just me, Daniel and Jonathon left. We were beyond hungry from being drunk all day and went for the greasiest thing we could think of: the divine burgers at the Sebright Arms. Greasy fingers leaving marks on the condensed glasses and we spoke about marriage and road trips. The three of us agreed that it was plain dumb that we haven’t hung out together more. 13 ace hotel At eleven Marlowe finished work and we met up at the Ace Hotel on Shoreditch Highstreet. The boys were in a bad state so me and Marlowe held us to ourselves drinking Tom Collins, talking about her new bff who’s 40 and the novel Marlowe is writing. That chick is crazy talented, so check her out here. 16 The two of them dropped off around 1am but me and Daniel decided to check out a New Orleans bar I’ve died to go to! It’s called Nola and is hidden on top of the worst club in London. You have to whisper to the bouncer that you want to go there and then he calls up to see if you’re allowed. Through the bar and two staircases up another bouncer lets you through a little door and it’s like you enter the real jazz filled Louisiana. 15 Booths and dodgy corners, crystal bottled whiskeys and oak furniture. Daniel and I order crazy cocktails like true lovers on holiday, plan what will be our American road trip next year. I name all the weirdest and most rural places I know in the States because that’s what I find most exotic. Late late late we walk home together. Daniel gives me a piggyback home and I rip my jeans and we laugh. It’s the best holiday ever.   Linn
