CHINESE NEW YEAR

1 I hadn’t really seen Daniel for over a week, him working, me studying, both having friend dates. So we decided to have a Chinese New Year/Sunday date. Stayed in our white sheets for hours first, just because we could, then as our stomaches started roaring we showered, then walked down the streets drenched with sunlight. 4 advisory Hackney is full of one night stand couples with tangled dyed hair and smudged mascara, walking with a studied distance between them. I love that one night stands go for brunch in the UK, in Sweden we just sneak out before the other awake. Like some of them we choose brunch at the Advisory on Mare Street. Which is some north american hipster invention with burgers and poutine. 2 The floor is probably my dream floor. 3 daniel advisory Hot bf. 5 the advisory Of course we order the fattest American blueberry pancakes, discussing our plans for this year as it might involve moving city/country/continent and it is oh so confusing. Fortunately everything feels easy with him. Something I never want to give up is weekend brunches in various restaurants with Daniel. 6 daria Stuffed and pleased we walk down to Bethnal Green to meet up with Ornella, Daria in her wicked sunglasses and her supercool three year old. 7 daniel Then we wait for number 8 to come for half an eternity. But I mean, fucking hell he is handsome I don’t even care. 13 china twon It’s Chinese New Year and the whole of central London is packed with people with pinwheels and masks, firecrackers slapping the pavements in a constant rain, massive papier mache dragons and traditionally dressed entertainers dancing on the streets. Every little stall and greasy Chinese restaurant in China Town is crammed. 12 china town And of course paper lanterns swaying over every little street. 8 daniel soho Daniel and I order cappuccinos from a little coffee shop to get away from the crowd, then buy a grey sweatshirt as soft as a cloud from Cheap Monday. 10 china town11 china town As the sun set we walked around in the China Town maze, dyed golden from the sunset. 9 china town And as we were turned down by several fancy hamburger shacks due to over an hour wait, we ordered sushi for home delivery instead. 14 daniel in livinroom canrobert street And as we stepped in the sushi guy on his vespa rang the door bell and with miso soup and lots of urumaki rolls we allow netflix to roll up one episode after another with Modern Family.   Linn

STAR OF BETHNAL GREEN & SHOREDITCH HOUSE

1 star of bethnal green Sunday and the hours seem to magically evaporate as it is already dark once we step outside. We don’t get very far, but the Star of Bethnal Green is more than sufficient. 2 daniel star of bethnal green Among chandeliers, chesterfield sofas, brick walls and different patterned wallpaper we drink cappuccino, watching kids and dogs run around between the tables. Sunday is definitely the family party day and a middle age man is acting dj, playing amazing 80’s hits and jazzy tunes. 3 Seb Saboune After a couple of hours we meet up with Sabouné to have dinner at Shoreditch House. It’s a rural kind of fancy and we order pastas for half the price, discuss work and girlfriends. I’m fishing for life advice in every conversation as I’m utterly lost in my life at the moment, and the boys come to some sort of rescue as always. After sharing a passion fruit cheesecake and ordering more coffee we are knackered and leave the candle lit rooftop restaurant with its heated pool behind.   Linn

THUNDERSTORMS AND NAKED BEER DRINKING

2 Kajsa Axel It’s 2pm when I wake up. It’s from my phone ringing and my head tutor wanting me to write an article about tackling obesity in media. I stumble and stutter and accept and then get dressed to meet up with Kajsa and Axel at Broadway Market. Our dear Axel who Me, Olivia and Taylor lived in Clapton with for a year. Do you remember? 3 kajsa axel We went out last night, to a house party in Stoke Newington and had hell of a night which went completely out of hand and was so much fun that we didn’t get home until 7am. Today we pay for it and feel sorry for ourselves so we buy some drinks. 4 wet kajsa axel For the second round we head over to Netil House when hell breaks lose. A storm breaks open the sky and it’s as if a river drowns us on the streets. We run and it’s less than a few hundred meters but we are soaked when we reach the Platform Café. 5 the platform cafe Hurdled up in one of the corners we sip hot chocolates and bloody marys. 6 arches At seven it was time to say bye to this trio and to Axel, who I miss! 7 hevin and hedvigs I pick up Daniel at home, drinking beer naked and playing vinyls until it’s time to take the bus to Hackney Wick. 8 frida m A house party filled with tons of Swedish girls, like Frida. 9 We discuss America while drinking whiskey ginger ale. Suddenly it is three in the morning and time to go home. I share a seat with Daniel on the bus, feeling happy and tired and warm from his body.   Linn

A DIFFERENT LEVEL OF HOUSE PARTYING

1 daniel Weekend night and despite the cold (well, if 10 degrees counts as cold in January) we walk all the way up to Haggerston and to Sebastian. 2 Because, as he is a terrific young man, he is cooking chicken katsu curry for us! Kate is there as well and we play old beats and discuss the new Beyonce album. It’s like back when I lived with Olivia and Lisa in Whitechapel and we played such good music nobody wanted to leave the preparty. 4 But after having fought for twenty minutes about which the last track should be we head up to Dalston. 7 Because we are invited to a house party by my friend Felipe! But not an ordinary one as it looks like a club with ligths and a hired dj… 5 … and two frikkin bars with bartenders making you whichever drink you’d like, for free! 8 I bumped in to old people I haven’t seen for years and then just twirled around and around in my own happy world for hours and hours. 6 The birthday boy of course got a cake. And suddenly it was too late, even for being at a house party of this caliber, so I jumped into a taxi and went home. Oh my, London drives me mad with love.   Linn
